John Fanning, 6th Connaught Rangers

Remembered this weekend. He joined up in 1903 and spent most of his time in India with the 1st Battalion before posting to France in 1914. Posted to the 6th Battalion.

He came from the small hamlet of Knockgraffton, Cahir, Co. Tipperary, and was the father of a three month old baby boy when he died in St. Omer on 3 July 1917, aged 30 years.

My grandfather, his cousin, joined the army to be with him in 1905.
