marc leroux Posted 6 July , 2004 Share Posted 6 July , 2004 If anyone has any information on this individual I would be much appreciative. He enlisted in the B.E.F. as Private John Main, service number 832, CWGC Casuality number 109396. Served in the Highland Light Infantry 1/5 Battalion and is buried in the Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetary. Is it possible that he was wounded at Gallipola? Forgive my ignorance, I know next to nothing about the campaigns other than the Western front (and not enough anout those either!) Guest Hill 60 Posted 6 July , 2004 Share Posted 6 July , 2004 According to SDGW he was born, and enlisted in Glasgow and 'died' at Gallipoli.

Guest DNH Posted 6 July , 2004 Share Posted 6 July , 2004 1/5th HLI served in 52nd Division, which arrived on Gallipoli in July 1915. See the page in the Long, Long Trail on this division at 52 Division page. The 'died' in Soldiers Died may mean that he never actually got onto the Peninsula, though.
