Charles Going was part of a very well known family in Northland, some of whom have been All Blacks.

He had several relatives also in the war

Going is a famous name in rugby circles. Sid was a very well-respected All-Black. His nephew Vaughan has been playing for Sale Sharks for 4 seasons, and has just left to play (we think) in France. Vaughan played for the Hong Kong international side.

Chris,

Just a question.

Do you know if NZ published a casulty return during the war?

Did they list units

And does it show the soldiers in the Camel Corps on it?

Also did your papers publish pitures of her soldiers before embarking and at war and if so how can I look for Camel Corps soldiers.

I did have trouble finding these soldiers due to their listing under there original units not the Camel Corps.

Thanks for any insight.

Hi Steve, I don't know about casualty returns except for the NZ Weekly News which published weekly lists of injured , dead, etc often with small photos, which is what I am using. But I have never seen anything about camelliers.

These photos were not official, but supplied by family. There are not individual photos of NZ troops, except for a few who got high awards. There are many group shots, often by official photographers, and often unidentified.

I will do some searching for camel corps members, I think there is a book about them.

This is a NZ Camel Corps, not AIF , I take it?

Yes Chris,

The 15th and 16th NZ Companies to the Camel Corps were raised in Egypt in 1916 from reinforcements to the Mounted Regts.

I have had no luck in finding there details as they are mostly list as there perent units Eg; Canterbury MR and so forth.

Take 7/778 Sgt Leslie Dudgeon Purves from Timaru NZ won the DCM in Egypt with the Camel Corps or 13/2580 Sgt Albert George Hooper DCM from Makarau NZ.

Just to name some I would like photos of.
