The medal roll for the 14 star may confirm the unit (see my previous post). Alternatively look for service papers or newspaper articles. bartensabien Posted 19 October , 2011 Share Posted 19 October , 2011 The war diary mention Dry Maasten: this should be DRIE MASTEN, a hamlet in the north Gullegem.(spelled Gulleghem in the old days) A German battery installed in the Drie Masten, (only a few houses and farms), caused a lot of trouble to the attacking troops (the Lancashire and new foundlanders) Rickets (New Foundlanders) got his VC on the slope (Beurt ridge) just north of that hamlet I live half mile away from those places.
