Jim Gordon Posted 7 July , 2004 Share Posted 7 July , 2004 I think it should be made clear that Entrenching Battalions existed from an earlier date than that quoted in the Latest Update (i.e. Feb. 1918). Even in the archival postings of this forums the 9th. Entrenching Battalion is mentioned as being in exisistence in August 1916. Postings of my own show that the 4th. Entrenching Battalion supplied 176 ex Lovat Scouts to the 1/7th/ Gordons in Feb./Mar. 1917. Obviously a decision must have been taken in late 1917/ early 1918 to formalise, and set in stone, the rules of engagement for these Battalions.
