1st July Officers

Having recently bought a new PC, I have misplaced a few emails.

Joe Devereux (Promenade) is currently working on 1st July 1916 officer casualties; could he contact me again, please? If he looks below he will remember why...

I have finally found the scrap album I have which has photos and clippings of 250+ old boys of the Watsonian Grammar School who fought and died in the Great War.

One of the guys on the forum, Dick Flory has offered to scan photos from the book:

'Yorkshire Rugby Football Union, In Memoriam 1914-1919'

(there is a thread concerned with this book that appeared in the last month)

The following officers killed on the 1st July with portraits are:

2nd Lieut R D Bawdwen Yorks and Lancs

2nd Lieut H Wilcher KOYLI (died 5th July from wounds rec on first day)

2nd Lieut. A B Lee 5th West Yorks

2nd Lieut F Thornton 7th East Yorks

Captain C Whitaker 15th West Yorks

2nd Lieut G H Walker KOYLI

Lieut J G Vause 15th West Yorks

Captain D C T Twentyman York and Lancs

2nd Lieut S O Sharp York and Lancs

Captain D C Smith 16th West Yorks

Lieut E J Martin Royal Warwicks

There are a number of photos of other ranks as well.

PS if anyone has photos or books/ newspapers etc of men killed 27th May to 6th June 1918, I would be very interested to see them.

David:

Are you interested in ORs who died on these dates or just officers? David L. Adams' book, Frome's Fallen Heroes has info on a 20th KRRC and a RE who died on May 29th and May 30th respective. It also contains some brief information on a 2nd Lt of 2nd West Yorks who was KIA May 27, '18.
