Guest jamievans Posted 8 July , 2004 Share Posted 8 July , 2004 When a soldier from our family was killed, there was a rumour that he was actually murdered by a sergeant or lieutenant of his own regiment whilst the person possibly claimed that he'd shot him while he was running to desert. Subsequently his records seem to have strangely vanished to some extent--Any ideas how or who we might get information from--we've tried all the usual channels Thanks

Guest Pete Wood Posted 8 July , 2004 Share Posted 8 July , 2004 Who was your relative....?? What unit was he with...?? Someone on the forum may have more information. If the 'muder' took place in the UK, it might also be covered in the local and National newspapers. I have come across a few such UK cases. Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 8 July , 2004 Share Posted 8 July , 2004 It must be remembered that about 70% of all WW1 other rank service records were destroyed in the Blitz. If the circumstances are what you say there could have been a court of enquiry and these records are at the PRO in Kew. Ian
