b3rn Posted 9 June , 2011 Share Posted 9 June , 2011 Been reading Australian Army nurses' accounts of their time at 3 A.C.C.S., Brandhoek ... under artillery fire, in the midst of a busy, chaotic area just behind the frontlines, a chance encounter with a brother heading into battle (did not return) ... evocative stories ... But my question is -- do maps exist showing the locations of the Casualty Clearing Stations? Visitors to that area & town ... I can see the cemeteries on Google's satellite & streetview; what else remains from that period?
pmaasz Posted 9 June , 2011 Share Posted 9 June , 2011 I'm not an expert in CCS's but I believe the cemeteries were right next to the stations/hospitals. Were the ACCS's separate from the British ones?
pmaasz Posted 9 June , 2011 Share Posted 9 June , 2011 I am answering my own question: Yes the ACCS's were separate and details of theor activities, staff, and locations can be found at: http://www.scarletfinders.co.uk/24.html P.S. for some reason in pasting the address part of the web address is dotted out. The partly deleted word is scarletfinders
b3rn Posted 9 June , 2011 Author Share Posted 9 June , 2011 Thanks, Scarlet Finders is a fantastic resource. I'd like to know where in Brandhoek the camps were sited though. Maybe getting a bit obsessive with the locations tho...
Joris Ryckeboer Posted 9 June , 2011 Share Posted 9 June , 2011 See first map @ Besides the cemeteries and the renovated "Hopstore" at the outskirts of Vlamertinge, which was used as HQ's, nothing remains. To my knowledge.
zijde26 Posted 17 June , 2011 Share Posted 17 June , 2011 To Joris, At the ' OUDERDOM ' (Reningelst), the cemetary is remaining. There has been in ww1 a CCS, but the CCS disappeared'. Gilbert Deraedt
