centurion Posted 8 July , 2011 Share Posted 8 July , 2011 In case no one has picked it up Otto Habsburg-Lothringen has died at 98. In the closing years of WW1 he was the Crown Prince of the KuK. He didn't relinquish his claim on the throne until the 1960s (and then he became an MEP for Bavaria). It seems he will be given a grand funeral in Austria where his body will be buried whilst his heart is interred in Hungary.
Old Tom Posted 8 July , 2011 Share Posted 8 July , 2011 His obituary was in the Times a couple of days ago. His full name was; Franz Josef, Otto,Robert, Maria Antonia, Karl Maximilian, Henry, Sixtus Xavier, Felix, Rene, Ludwig, Gaetus, Pius, Ignatus. One has to have lots of important relations to pick up a list like that. The Emperor Franz Josef was his great, great uncle. He became the Crown Prince when his great, great, uncle died in 1916, at the age of 4. Old Tom

Ron Clifton Posted 9 July , 2011 Share Posted 9 July , 2011 ... and then he became an MEP for Bavaria ... There is a story that one of his fellow MEPs met him in the European Parliament once, and asked him: "Did you see the Austria - Hungary football match last night?" His reply was, allegedly: "No - who were we playing?" RIP Dr von Habsburg. Ron
