John Holmes Posted 18 July , 2004 Share Posted 18 July , 2004 Hi, I'm researching the 7th Division and came across the name of a Pte. C. Sell, 2nd Bn. The Border Regt. killed on the 23/4/16. Can anyone help as to what the battalion was doing and what part of the line on the Somme they were holding please. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, John Holmes. Paul Reed Posted 18 July , 2004 Share Posted 18 July , 2004 They were holding the line bewteen Bois Francais at Fricourt and Mansel Copse opposite Mametx at the time, if I remember correctly. CROONAERT Posted 20 July , 2004 Share Posted 20 July , 2004 They were holding the front line in the area of (the prettily titled! ) "Blood Alley" in the area mentioned by Paul. They were suffering from severe German bombardments and a series of German trench raids at this point and had been doing so for a number of days. Most detail from the regimental history mentions a serious raid of the 20th April and just brushes over the rest. Dave.
