9th Black Watch Posted 21 July , 2004 Share Posted 21 July , 2004 Hi, Two weeks ago in York I picked up a Christmas Card from the 1/8th West Yorkshire Regt. dated 1915 and signed by Sam Coates. I've checked the MICs and notice Sam served as a 2/Lieut. and later Capt. I've sent for copies of his papers but wondered if anyone knew anything about him or his battalion. He wasn't a casualty. If anyone's interested I'd be happy to scan the card. It's quite impressive showing a view of the Yser Canal on the front and 'Two views recently taken of our trench quarters' inside. Best wishes, Derek
