My paternal grandfather Sam Noakes (13565, Pte, S Staffs) was transferred to the above unit (WR348214, Pnr, RE) on 13/11/1918 and served with them until 20/12/1919. Does any know anthing about this unit, what it's responsibility was, or any info?

ernie, the wr prefix means road & quarries engineers or waterways & railways engineers.what was his pre- war occupation?,a large number of staffordshire miners were transferred from the s.staffs to the r.e. for tunneling.
