The items belonged to Henry C. Hughes, who served with the 1/6th Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment, hence the "SSR" on the identity disc. He appears to have survived the war.

His regimental number was 3115, indicating that he enlisted sometime in October 1914, and received his new six digit number (240645) in March 1917. He was a Territorial Force soldier, and his battalion had it headquarters in Wolverhampton, with companies in Tipton, Sedgley, Darlaston, Willenhall, Bilston, Wednesfield and Tettenhall.

As for the coin, it does look like Arabic script but the only reason I can think of as to why he may have had it is that the 1/6th South Staffords served briefly in Egypt in January/February 1916.

Where did you find these?
