Magicbeard Posted 9 January , 2012 Share Posted 9 January , 2012 Hi There I have come accross this "On War Service" badge dated 1916. According to the interesting article by Tom Tulloch-Marshall it was awarded to Women involved in the war effort. Has anyone worked out a way to identify the recipient or company from the serial number on the back ? Mine has 152236. Cheers Mitch
Khaki Posted 9 January , 2012 Share Posted 9 January , 2012 I don't think the goverment kept individual records of names for OWS badges, at least I have never heard of any, employers probably did but as the badges were 'returnable' to the employer on leaving their employ it is probable that each badge may have been issued many times. I am not an expert on these (or any other badges) so I am ready to stand corrected. khaki
The Inspector Posted 9 January , 2012 Share Posted 9 January , 2012 Hi Mitch If you read Tom's article in full it explains that there is no way of identifying a particular badge by the number. Regards Barry

Regards Barry I read it in full. Just wondering if any new information may have come into the public domain since he wrote it.
