mcderms Posted 2 August , 2004 Share Posted 2 August , 2004 All I can add is that the 2nd Battn per se were not one of the three engaged in the Somme battles, these being the 15th, 16th and 17th. It is possible that Albert was attached to one of these battns - maybe he was a specialist of some nature - and was mortally wounded on 1/6/16. My only reason for suggesting this is that I don't believe that any other HLI units were in action on 1/7/16 or just before and that in the days of the Pals, how did a scouser end up in a jock regt (and in one of its kilt wearing battns to boot)? Guest Pete Wood Posted 2 August , 2004 Share Posted 2 August , 2004 Are you confused about the date of this soldier's death..?? He died on the 1st August 1916 along with dozens of his mates (in the same battalion) on the 30th and 31st of July. Those that died from 2 HLI include men from Essex and Ireland......
