6th Shropshires Posted 3 March , 2012 Share Posted 3 March , 2012 Hi Mike I have this book and can say it's a great read but Phillip Gibbs does not always get his facts correct, when writing about the 6th Division attack on Hooge Crator he records the Durhams being the first into the Crator, this is not so the 1st K.S.L.I. were first into the Crator (it being their soul objective). He talks of the Durhams & the Yorkshire men of the 2nd York & Lancs but makes not mention of the Shropshires, who were in the centre of the attack. But still Gibbs book is a very interesting read as he mixed with the troops as much as he was allowed to by the High Command, who were not that keen on press men getting to close to the true nature of the war.
