Guest jonwillpott Posted 7 August , 2004 Share Posted 7 August , 2004 I am trying to find out about any WW1 incidents that may have occurred in Ipswich as my g-grandfather appears to have died without trace and the only explanation I can come up with is that something happened and that his body was never recovered. Having checked the BMD death records, a check at the Ipswich Registry and a search for a gravestone by Ipswich Cemetery this is the only conclusion at this time unless anyone knows different Any help would be much appreciated - his name was William James POTTER - aged mid-sixties and lived in Ipswich for all but a few years during the 1870's. Desmond7 Posted 7 August , 2004 Share Posted 7 August , 2004 Jon - the answer I always give - go to the lowest common denominator in newspaper terms. Start with the daily locals then move to the 'area' weeklies - if they existed. The lower down the scale you go i.e. to a small local weekly, the better chance you have of finding references. Your local reference library should have most local publications on microfiche for easy browsing. Best of luck Des
