SMG65 Posted 8 August , 2004 Share Posted 8 August , 2004 My Great Grandfather is listed in tye Medal Roll remarks column as Class 'Z' A.R 5.2.20, (I am assuming that A.R. is Army Reserve). Does this mean that his joining up date was 5.2.17 and he has served three years or something else?
hmsk212 Posted 8 August , 2004 Share Posted 8 August , 2004 Hi Welcome to the forum. The Z (AR) date does not have a bearing on the date that your great grandfather joined the army. I think, however, that it does show that he joined up just for the duration as, if he had already been a territorial, he would be shown as being disembodied rather than discharged Z (AR). But no doubt I will probably be proved wrong by those with expertise in this particular field. Steve
Guest pwt Posted 10 August , 2004 Share Posted 10 August , 2004 I'm new to this but if I may make a suggestion, 5.2. 20 could mean his 1 year reserve listing came to an end on that date, which would make his discharge date 5.2.19. I'm quite prepared for somebody to tell me I'm round the twist (again) but wnted to put in my penneth. Paul
