Hi, Just joined the forum and enjoying the information and experience.

I'm currently trying to trace my Great Grandfather's movements as part of 230 Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Specifically from September 1918. His name was 193586 Gnr Young, James. I'm specifically interested in where this unit may have been located and any action they may have been involved in. Thanks

The war diary of 230th Siege Battery, RGA only goes through January 1918 so you will have to consult the war diaries at The National Archives for the Heavy Artillery Groups (HAGs) to which the battery belonged.

1. From 12 July 17 to 5 Sept. 17: 73 HAG (WO 95/476)

2. From 6 Sept. 17 to 28 Oct. 17: 28 HAG (WO 95/541)

3. From 29 Oct. 17 to the end of the war: 83 HAG (WO 95/478)

Hi,

I appreciate this thread is many years old now, but I thought I'd post this anyway. It's a photo of my grandfather Captain Charles Taylor (front row, second from right) and given his service record it's going to be either late 1917 or 1918. He served first in 284 Siege Battery RGA, then on 4 Jan 1918 was posted to 230 Siege Battery. So this could be either - I have no idea.

Regards,

Jim
