bluedog Posted 12 August , 2004 Share Posted 12 August , 2004 Pals On my last visit to the Somme in 2001, I picked up at a market an oval copper disc with the name GUIGNARD LESTANDICIE BORDEAUX 1915 stamped on it. I have e-mailed the Mayor's office in bordeaux to see if his office can trace any related family, but to date I have received no reply. Could any Pal with some expertise in French soldiers let me know if in fact the disc was a part of French Army I.D. as I do not know if France has the equivelant of a CWGC website Bluedog
DirtyDick Posted 12 August , 2004 Share Posted 12 August , 2004 The French equivalent of the CWGC is 'Memoire des Hommes'. Try a google search for this site. It's pretty easy to navigate. Here is the link: Guignard is the surname, and it is fairly common. However, there is no one with that forename among the 20 pages, so hopefully he survived, although the site is not 100% complete and probably has the same inaccuracies as the CWGC. http://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/ Also, the Site lists appropriate Departments to write to for additional information.
