dorrie Posted 13 August , 2004 Share Posted 13 August , 2004 I am researching soldiers who died in the Great War with the name Bethell. I have looked in the Gazette on line trying to establish dates of promotion for Christopher Bethell. According to records I have he was in the 10th battalion Kings Own Yorkshire light infantry. Any ideas?
Desmond7 Posted 13 August , 2004 Share Posted 13 August , 2004 Dorrie - welcome aboard. 1. Do you have a home residence for this man. 2. Was he closely associated with any town. If you can establish where he was born/lived/worked etc I strongly suggest you try researching columns of the nearest local newspaper. If it is a weekly newspaper you will have a much greater chance of success. These papers, I have found, often listed when an officer gained promotions. They may not give you the exact date ... but it will be fairly close. Most of these old papers now on microfiche at local reference libraries for researchers. Hope this may be of some use.
