munchkin Posted 14 August , 2004 Share Posted 14 August , 2004 Hi All, I am looking into one of my ancestors (above), and have a question. On the Soldiers Died cd, at the side of his number is a "12". On CWGC his number is simply 1954. What does the "12" indicate?. William May, York & Lancaster Regiment. DOD 29/06/1918, Granezza British Cemetery. Glynn.
enoch beard Posted 14 August , 2004 Share Posted 14 August , 2004 hello, did your relative first enlist into the 12th y&l(sheffield city batt.) because it was disbanded in 1918 in the reorganization of the army.so the 12th could be his orginal unit enoch
