kylieb Posted 22 July , 2012 Share Posted 22 July , 2012 I'm wondering if there are any books about how the battlefields were cleared & returned to farming land? How the French & Belgium people reclaimed their land & got on with their everyday lives after the war. Thanks, Kylie
Hedley Malloch Posted 22 July , 2012 Share Posted 22 July , 2012 The standard work is by Hugh Clout: 'After the Ruins" Click here for Amazon sales details, though I think it's out of print now. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0859894916/ Second hand copies are hard to come by and expensive. For a different take have a look at Will Bird's '13 Years After'. Bird was a CEF soldier who returned to the battlefields and described what he saw. Keith Actually three volumes Keith, although it's amazing how often Vol 3 gets no mention. Keith
