susan kitchen Posted 27 July , 2012 Share Posted 27 July , 2012 This is not a new book. Published i think about 2008. For those who don't know it'a a photographc journey through the war cemeteries and memorials of the Great War 1914-1918. Arranged by campaign and accompanied by quotations from contemporary writings, the photographs capture the austere and tragic calm of the cemeteries, memorials such as the Menin Gate and Vimy Ridge, and their settings- the landscapes of the old battle grounds, from the open fields of the Western Front to the wood slopes of the Gallipoli peninsula. Anyway for anyone who hasn't heard about this book or intended to get it but never got round to it. Postscript books- www.psbooks.co.uk are selling copies for £7.99 instead of £
keithjk Posted 27 July , 2012 Share Posted 27 July , 2012 I have this book, and would recommend it even at the full price. The photographs are superb, and very emotive. Keith
