Guest Hangleton Posted 17 August , 2004 Share Posted 17 August , 2004 Hi all I have got a copy of the service record for my gt grandfather from the PRO, and it appears to say"Certified to draw Class P Pay". It is not very easy to read so this might not be quite right. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 17 August , 2004 Share Posted 17 August , 2004 I have seen this linked to proficiency pay of Sappers in the RE on their service records, but don't know about Gooners. Ian
Muerrisch Posted 17 August , 2004 Share Posted 17 August , 2004 If this is indeed Proficiency Pay [and all Regular soldiers were eligible on meeting fairly stringent standards] then the rules are in Pay Warrant 1914. A soldier could not draw Service Pay together with Proficiency Pay. In essence the former was phased out from c. 1906. Good conduct badges no longer attracted extra pay, nor did musketry, signalling qualifications etc. As Hostilities-only soldiers were deemed to be regulars on a short engagement, I believe they too could be eligible of Proficiency Pay.
