rose of picardy Posted 3 August , 2012 Share Posted 3 August , 2012 The author of "The Face of Battle" and numerous books on war (including WWI) died yesterday. He appears on Book TV's "In Depth" program for those who would be interested: http://www.booktv.org/Program/3808/In+Depth+John+Keegan+19342012.aspx I haven't watched this particular segment, but the program features an extended interview (three hours!) with an author. Often, you see their houses and listeners call in with questions. I have seen the programs featuring Jeff Shaara and Shelby Foote (they wrote books about the American Civil War) and found them worthwhile.
lostinspace Posted 7 August , 2012 Share Posted 7 August , 2012 Thanks for posting the link, I watched 1 1/2 hours of the interview last night and intend to watch the other half tonight. Seems like we're losing some of our best military historians and writers lately, first Richard Holmes, now John Keegan. Regards, Dave
Crunchy Posted 19 August , 2012 Share Posted 19 August , 2012 He was a great historian, and I am saddened to learn he has passed away. He made an enormous contribution to military history, and many of his books will remain classics. Rest in Peace John.
Muerrisch Posted 19 August , 2012 Share Posted 19 August , 2012 Amen. Face of Battle is a revelation after the sanitised accounts of war.
