telaw Posted 17 August , 2004 Share Posted 17 August , 2004 I want to trace the movements of one of the units I served in and could do with a few pointers where to start in that respect. The unit is: 18 (Quebec 1759) Battery RA As the title suggests it was formed in that year at the heights of Abraham and is still going strong with 32 Regt RA. I served from 1977-80 and can't remember much talk of the battery's actions in WW1 but I'm sure it must have been active. Thanks Tom
Greenwoodman Posted 18 August , 2004 Share Posted 18 August , 2004 Looks like 18th Battery RFA was part of III Bde RFA, which went out to France as part of 28 Div the 16-19/01/15. In Aug 1914 III Bde was at Jullundur, arrived England 16/11/14, reached Winchester 19/11/14. Half its personnel was taken to form the basis of CXLVI Bde (also in 28 Div) 18 Battery was split into 18 Battery and 365 Battery. Division fought in Battles of Gravenstafel Ridge, St Julien, Frezenberg Ridge and Bellewaarde Ridge in 1915, also Battle of Loos. 21/10/15 Div entrained for Marseilles & sailed on 24/10/15 for Alexandria, reaching Egypt by 22/11/15. Div completed disembarkation Salonika 22/01/16. After the Armistice, 28 Div went to Turkey, unaccompanied by its artillery. What happened next to 18 Bty is unknown!!
