Michael Molkentin Posted 28 August , 2012 Share Posted 28 August , 2012 Has anyone read 'Raiding on the Western Front' by Anthony Saunders yet? (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raiding-Western-Front-Anthony-Saunders/dp/1848844859/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346115913&sr=8-1) Is it any good? M.
squirrel Posted 28 August , 2012 Share Posted 28 August , 2012 One of the books that I am currently reading - no fault found and an enjoyable read. Lots of accounts of particular raids.
nthornton1979 Posted 28 August , 2012 Share Posted 28 August , 2012 I've got this book and it's not a bad read. I keep meaning to write an in-depth review for Amazon but haven't had the chance as yet. Neil
Michael Molkentin Posted 29 August , 2012 Author Share Posted 29 August , 2012 Is it a running narrative of raids- or is it analytical, looking at how they developed over time, how they contributed to the British war effort who (which units/ formations) did them well etc. Is it focused on British raiding- or does it look at what the French and Germans were doing too? Chris_Baker Posted 29 August , 2012 Share Posted 29 August , 2012 Hello Michael - the book is analytical and assesses the development of raids. It makes the point that the learning played an important part in more general doctrine. It is mainly British with some German, describing some successes and failures. I must get down to write a review of it. Overall it was worth reading.
