michaeldr Posted 28 September , 2012 Share Posted 28 September , 2012 'The Dodger' by Tim Carroll, published by Mainstream Publishing, Edinburgh & London, 2012: ISBN 9781845967994 Those of us who love the the RND and Gallipoli, have waited a long time for a biography of John Bigelow Dodge DSO DSC MC. But, have we waited in vain? What useful new information has come to light with this reading? I find that I share a liking for the same brand of cigar as the hero I learn that as well as the Gulf of Suez, the Suez Canal and the Nile Delta, there is also something called the 'Suez Delta' I had previously thought that in the 1930s Hitler had re-occupied the Rhineland, whereas I now learn that it was in fact the Rhur And it seems that there were Canadians, as well as Newfoundlanders, at Gallipoli – quote “...as a major on the headquarters staff of the 4th Canadian Division in 1915, had served alongside Johnny at Gallipoli.” The book is nicely printed and bound, but it is really a great pity about all those trees!
