Liz Kitcher Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 According to the information I've found so far, the 14th Btn was started in Portsmouth. I've just been given confirmation that my gt-grandad Alfred Kitcher signed up in Southampton. Does anyone know anything about whereabouts he could have signed up in Southampton? Thanks Liz
PhilB Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 Liz, the Army List, 1915, shows the Hampshire TF Bns having addresses at 32, Carlton Place, Southampton (5Bn) and Hamilton House, Commercial Rd., Southampton (9Bn). One imagines that recruits might have gravitated towards them? Phil B
Liz Kitcher Posted 24 August , 2004 Author Share Posted 24 August , 2004 Thanks Phil, that would make an awful lot of sense as Alfred's home address was in Southampton Street, which is less than 100yrds away from Carlton Place in Southampton.
