dycer Posted 21 November , 2012 Share Posted 21 November , 2012 First published 1921. Reprinted 2009 by Amberley Publishing.(cost £12-99) ISBN 978 I 84868 424 9 I am currently re-reading this book. I would not venture to say I was enjoying it because it is a collection of veterans stories and, therefore, full of pathos. But I am enjoying it! Because once you read beyond the pathos it highlights the humour of the common(London) WW1 Serviceman and how he dealt with adversity, often to his own gain. I appreciate that as its "Cockney War Stories" it will not,on the surface, appeal to Forum Members who live in the Provinces i.e ".north of Watford Gap" but I urge you not to dismiss this reprinted Book. "Londoners" served in all the many arms of the Services during WW1 and "their" take on their colleagues will as much entertain you as giving a insight into the actualities. I commend this reprint to the Forum. George
