1881 Census

There is an entry for a Joseph Cimelli but with another wife, Grace L Cimelli.

Either another person or Elizabeth is a second marriage

A Joseph Cimelli married Elizabeth, who came from Essex, and they travelled between London and Essex in the next few years, having children in both places

I believe his full, correct name was:

Cimelli, Francesco Zenone C

There are lots of Cimelli children being born, all in the Holborn (was Essex, then Middlesex) and West Ham areas.

Mother was Elizabeth Emily Chamberlain who married Giovanni Cimelli in 1882....?

There was also a Rifleman Alfred Cimelli, 21st KRRC, who was killed in September 1917 at 3rd Ypres. He is on Tyne Cot Memorial.

Cimelli seems to be a fairly uncommon name from northern Italy, the name is found in just 20 "Comuni". A common name like Rossi is found in 4541!

If interested, go here: http://gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html

Put "Cimelli" into the box beneath the word "Cognome" and press enter.

You will see where Cimelli's live now, based upon the Italian phone directory. You might also try "Rossi" for the contrast.
