Thank you to all the people who helped me find out that my great uncle was in the South Staffordshire Reg. Now I'm trying to find out when they were in Northern Ireland pre 1914, as the photo of him was taken in Belfast.

Any information would be very welcome.

Many thanks, Dorothy

Dorothy,

On regiments.org you find a complete overview of the deployment of the two regular battalions of the South Staffordshire Regiment. It seems that 1st Battalion was in Ireland in 1904. I don't know if that date does coincide with your great uncle's time in the army. Otherwise you might find more at that page. I hope this helps a little.

Regards,

Wienand

I'm not sure which Battalion you great Uncle served in so have recorded the following from the History of the South Staffordshire Regiment.

1st Btn South Staffords were in Ieland Sept 1899 - Jan 1900

2nd Btn had a training exercise in Ireland during 1913

1st Btn were in Ireland Nov 1904-Nov 1906.

Regards Doug.
