J. Thompson Gordon Highlanders

I read a very brief news report that a body discovered near Zonnebeke had been identified as Private John Thompson of the Gordons. Does anyone have any further info? I did a search but couldn't find any previous forum postings about this.

The only John Thompson (Gordon Highlanders) listed on SDGW died of wounds on 5 November 1918 serving with the 4th Bn. However, this soldier is buried (according to the CWGC database) in the Cambrai East Military Cemetery.

SDGW lists 14 casualties to the Gordon Highlanders with the name "John Thomson". I expect that he must be one of these men!

Aha..In which case the most likely candidate seems to be John S Thomson, of 2nd Gordons, who was killed on 4/10/17 and is presently commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. Perhaps Terry Denham or someone else can confirm this. And by the way, Terry, thanks for the info on Wimereux.
