Field cookers/kitchens

I'd guess the cooker in the photo must have been issued to a battalion of the Manchesters (and wouldnt I just love to know which).

If I read the inscription on the cooker correctly that particular one went to the Belgian Army

As part of the 100th events a group has obtained 2 1918 dated field kitchens .

In restoring them no cooking pans or covers are included.. would like to see pictures of what is being used in the reproduction that you have.

I am going to see the one currently being worked on and will take pictures of all parts. Will provide pictures and anything else just send me an email.

We only have the cookers but no limbers.

The kitchens came from Western Canada and were possibly used by the North west mounted police.

I look forward to receiving info. on this.

Thank you

Previous posts mention Soyer and the Crimea.

There was a thread on the Victorian Wars Forum called Soyer's Culinary Campaign

http://www.victorianwars.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8686&p=42252

I provided a link for Soyer’s book Soyer's Culinary Campaign: Being Historical Reminiscences of the Late War, published 1857 which is available to read online on Archive.org

Hi Moonraker

Have you identified the unit. It does look like they are cooking on the march, although the cooker on the right has the door to the fire chamber open and the one closest to has the door and cinder flap closed.

The water bottles also look like the aluminium pattern

Identifying units is not something I'm much good at, Dave, but the 12th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders were at Sutton Veny Camp from February to September 1915 and feature in other postcards of the camp.
