dped Posted 11 April , 2003 Share Posted 11 April , 2003 Dear All, One of my prizes is a shoulder title , AGH/PO .In full , Australian General Hospital / Post office. The "unit" was located at Cairo in WW1. Has anyone researched the AIF Postal Services and if so , can they estimate what the staffing level may have been.? All the best , Don. W. Pedler. stevenbecker Posted 11 April , 2003 Share Posted 11 April , 2003 Don, I have been through the 14th AGH nominal roll during the war and found no one using that title. Postal duties at the hosp were carried out by the Ord/room Clerks. Mail distrubtion was at AIF HQ Egypt down to the AIF units/ LH Regiments and broken down further. Your Shoulder title is a strange one as you know all Australian soldier 's carried only one S/T and the was the country's name and sometimes the LH Regiments number. dped Posted 12 April , 2003 Author Share Posted 12 April , 2003 G'day Steve, The latest issue of " SABRETACHE " [Australia] has a copy of a paper presented by Graham Wilson titled " The relevance of Miscellany. Administrative,Support and Logistic Units of the AIF " There is a good write up on the Postal Services .I have just got my copy and will try to contact the author. The number of metal shoulder titles to the AIF is modest but a few examples you have probably seen include 3/LH/AUSTRALIA .SIG CO ,SIG TROOP ,27/INF/AUST. MP.AUSTRALIAN/PROVOST CORPS, ANZAC/PROVOST CORPS ,, CFS etc. Good luck with the Camel Corps research. Don. W. Pedler
