Paul Reed Posted 2 September , 2004 Share Posted 2 September , 2004 Your Family Tree magazine, whom I write for, have been sent an email which states: Perhaps you would like to pass on to your readers that the indexing of the Army archive has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of 2005 Does anyone know anything about this, or have heard of it? Personally, I think they are talking about WW2 records still with MOD.
Terry Denham Posted 2 September , 2004 Share Posted 2 September , 2004 Paul Who sent the email?
Paul Reed Posted 2 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 2 September , 2004 It was a reader; for reasons I am sure you understand, I can't say who.
Terry Denham Posted 2 September , 2004 Share Posted 2 September , 2004 Thanks Paul. I did not expect an individual's name but the quote reads as though it could have come from an organisation (NA or MoD etc).
eviltaxman Posted 2 September , 2004 Share Posted 2 September , 2004 Other than the on-line MIC details.... I'm stumped. Be nice to know what they're on about Les.
Paul Reed Posted 2 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 2 September , 2004 Thanks for your responses; I will try and get to the bottom of this statement, which I am more and more sure relates to WW2 records.
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 4 September , 2004 Share Posted 4 September , 2004 Paul, I asked about this at the PRO yesterday (don't know if you did?) but drew a blank. Ian
Paul Reed Posted 4 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2004 Thanks Ian - I also did the same, and drew the same blank! I suspect the person concerned is talking about some index of WW2 records at the MOD, so they can speed up their reply time to enquiries.
Guest Simon Bull Posted 6 September , 2004 Share Posted 6 September , 2004 I do know that they decided some time ago that they would index the short series of mis-sorts in one of the series WO363 or 364 (can never remember which is which when I'm not actually at the PRO) - perhaps this is what is being referred to? I was told that this was in hand when I raised the possibly of it being done with the NA. Simon Bull
