305086 Acting WO Class II Leonard Spate. 1/8th Royal Warwicks. Qualified for British War medal and Victory Medal. His service papers cannot be found, and I'm interested to know more about him.

Any Warwicks fans out there that might be able to help? Rob Williams, Terry Carter?

Only 1 Leaonard Spate in the 1901 census, and he lives in Warwick so he's likely to be your man.

Hello Chris

Sgt L Spate 305086 (which was his new territorial army number) was listed as wounded in the Birmingham Daily Post on 1 October, 1917. Thus probably wounded at St Julian etc.

A Lance Corporal L Spate 2431 (Which could be the same man but his original TF number) was in the wounded list on 17 August 16

Thats all I can give you

Cheers

Terry

That might be a sign as to the rate of attrition in some units. L/Cpl to Sgt in a year. And injured twice!
