Name: NIGHTINGALE, THOMAS WILLIAM Initials: T W Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment: Northamptonshire Regiment Unit Text: 1st/4th Bn. Age: 30 Date of Death: 19/04/1917 Service No: 201915 Additional information: Son of Thomas and Emma Nightingale, of 58, Harleston Rd., St. James', Northampton, husband of Florence Nightingale, of 13, Symington St., St. James', Northampton. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 40 Cemetery: JERUSALEM MEMORIAL I know little about this campaign. Was 19th April part of an offensive? Ed Matthews Posted 7 September , 2004 Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Stephen The following is taken from the National Roll of the Great War, Volume XII - Bedford & Northampton: NIGHTINGALE, T.W., Pte., 1/4th Northants. Regiment He joined in June 1916 and in March of the following year was sent to Egypt and thence into Palestine, where he served as a signaller. He made the supreme sacrifice, falling in action in the second Battle of Gaza in April 1917, only a month after landing in the East. He was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals. Whether it relates to their adventures in Gallipoli or Sinai/Palestine, Im afraid I couldnt say, but may be worth checking out? Havent succesfully found anyone with a copy yet myself!
