Laurent,

I've thumbed through the sections about Tunnellers in the History of the Corps of Royal Engineers ... they were the first RE community to be fully mechanised with motor transportation, miners from Great Britain (Australia, NZ and Canada). I didn't find any comment about special uniforms or insignia.

There is a hint, no more, that they also wore a 'T' badge, but who, where or how made, I have no idea. See title page of "Tunnellers" by Grant Grieve etc.

I thought this was one of those things that couldn't be proved with any certainty?

Hasn't this been discussed before?

If your question covered the Australian Tunnellers, there are a number of pictures etc on www.gov.au that may be of interest.

There is also a resume under the Military Units "prompt" on their home page.

Good digging!

Pat

This badge is a purple T, the colour patch of Australian Mining Corps & Tunnelling Companies.
