genegwf Posted 21 April , 2013 Share Posted 21 April , 2013 I know this book has been reviewed by others but I want to add my bit. First of all, I am not an avid reader of naval history, I own just two books covering this area of the war, but when I started reading this book I could not put it down. The author has done a superb job of telling a complex story and skilfully weaves the many different personalities into the narrative. The most profound item I got out if the book was how my perception of Winston Churchill changed. I hope you will read the book and see if your perception of him changes also. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the study of the Great War.

seaJane Posted 22 April , 2013 Share Posted 22 April , 2013 Who's the author, gentlemen?
Bernard_Lewis Posted 22 April , 2013 Share Posted 22 April , 2013 Robert K. Massie. He also did 'Dreadnought' which covers the pre-war naval arms race (not read that one). Bernard
RobL Posted 22 April , 2013 Share Posted 22 April , 2013 Would like to read this series of books, the size puts me off when I have so many others to get through, but certainly on 'the list' for when i've ploughed through a few more and reduced the backlog

Simon_Fielding Posted 27 May , 2013 Share Posted 27 May , 2013 He's a magisterial popular historian - Nicholas and Alexandria of course but try his Peter the Great for a superb 'out of period' read...
