Old Tom Posted 16 July , 2013 Share Posted 16 July , 2013 My choice of forum may be wrong, however some quotes from an obituary in today's Times seem to be worth repeating. The obituary was of the Marquess of Anglesey who wrote 'A History of British Cavalry' In the volume about the Western Front he described the work of Alan Clark, author of 'The Donkeys' which criticised British generals as 'contemptible' and the author as 'perhaps the most arrogant and least respectable of writers on the war' Both authors were Etonians. In a review of 'A Histrory of British Cavalry Clark had ventured ''Is it not true that, in a practical military sense, cavalry are nearly always a disaster, a waste of time and resources' Old Tom

Terry_Reeves Posted 16 July , 2013 Share Posted 16 July , 2013 Could I ask what "Etonians" have to do with this? There is notihing in the obituary that suggests there was fall out because of the school both went to, but rather more an approach to the subject. .
