John Edgar Hurst Hirst

Why was this batalion known as the 1st Sportsmans? The person I am researching is John Edgar Hurst Hirst died 16/9/1916 at the age of 41, he originally came from Retford Notts.. he is buried at Euston Road Cemetery. the 23 rd Battalion were in action earlier in September. Were they in action on 16th Spet 1916.

Any infor is most welcome.

Saiily au Bois August 25th.

Front Line August 29th.

Couin September 1st.

Front Line September 16th.

Authie September 20th.
