Guest kimbrocklehurst Posted 21 September , 2004 Share Posted 21 September , 2004 Whilst browsing the database, I was somewhat surprised to find 5 entries for "Rt. Hon David Lloyd George MP - civilian"! Presumably, this is the "main man's" son. However, I would be fascinated to know how he came to be a "POW", especially when regarded as a non-combatant . No camp is mentioned. The "Details" column carries phrases such as "German attitude and opinion" and "German feeling towards". As I am not in a position to go to the National Archives to carry out the research, can any "Pals" throw some light on this DLG's case ? Congratulations to all those involved in producing the database. Kim
Chris_Baker Posted 21 September , 2004 Share Posted 21 September , 2004 Kim The WO161 index is to a collection of reports compiled by a Committee of the Treatment of British POWs. While the vast majority of the reports appear to have been by the POW himself or by someone that knew of him, it does appear that some reports are by other commentators. In this case, the entry is for DLG himself. It would be intereting to look up his detailed comments in the reports indictaed in the index.
Michael Posted 21 September , 2004 Share Posted 21 September , 2004 ...or more likely they are references to him in other reports. This is certainly the case with the entries for Casement. Mick
Guest kimbrocklehurst Posted 23 September , 2004 Share Posted 23 September , 2004 Chris & Michael Thanks for the clarification, gentlemen. It would have been quite a propaganda coup for the Germans if they had captured a scion of DLG! Kim
