Terry Posted 24 September , 2004 Share Posted 24 September , 2004 I recently acquired through the Buy It Now feature on ebay a 1914-15 Star to PO14992 Pte.C.J.Hawes,RMLI. I was a bit surprised that it remained for several days on ebay without being snapped up, as the Buy It Now price was only $38.25 - not bad at all really. Other than the fact that Hawes was a Portsmouth enlistment, what are my chances for research? Obviously, I can send for his papers through Jonathan Collins, but are there other sources out there for research?
Guest Hill 60 Posted 25 September , 2004 Share Posted 25 September , 2004 Terry - I was under the impression that researching Naval medals, and the RMLI are Naval, were easier than the Army ones as the records weren't damaged in WW2. I might be wrong, so I'd be interested in hearing from one of the Knowledgable Ones.
leigh Posted 25 September , 2004 Share Posted 25 September , 2004 I just did some digging for a RM band member at the NA. The service records are all there for the marines AFAIK. although they may just be one page depending on the type of service. There is also the RM museum/ library down Gosport/Portsmouth way that might have some information. I have yet to get there but it is on my list of things to do Regards Leigh
