Major H G A Thomson. Royal Warwickshire

Hello all,

Has anyone got any info, please, or a picture of Major Henry George Allen Thomson, Royal Warwickshire Regiment who was attached to the 15th Div HQ Staff. He was Mentioned in Dispatches (London Gazzette 13 July 1916 (acting Lt Col.)

He died on 28 March, 1917 and is buried in Anzac Cemetery, Sailly Sur-la-Lys.

Born on 23 Nov 77, the son of Henry Thomson, Esq. of Fiji

Educated at Cheltenham College from Jan 89 to Dec 95

Gentleman Cadet, RMC, Sandhurst, 1896

Commissioned as 2nd Lieut, R War R, on 7 May 98

Promoted to Lieut, R War R on 5 Apr 99

Promoted to Captain, R War R on 22 Mar 02

Passed Staff College

Adjutant, Volunteers, from 13 Dec 04 to 12 Dec 07

DAAQMG, Jamaica from 14 Feb 12 to 17 Oct 14

Promoted to Major on 10 Jun 15

From 1915-1916 he was GSO, 9th Army Corps, MEF, Gallipoli

On 5 Jun 16 he was appointed as GSO2, Aldershot Command

Afterwards on the staff in France

Died of wounds at Sailly-sur-Lys on 28 Mar 17

HAMILTON: 8/1/62 1917 Jul 6

Manuscript letter from 'One who knows', warning Hamilton that he would be doomed by papers in the possession of the widow of the late Maj Henry George Allen Thomson, former General Staff Officer of 9 Corps, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. 1p

There is no mention in the 15th Div History of this officer. The history contains a pretty comprehensive list from 1914 to 1918, right down to brigade staff captains. Was he attached for some particular reason prior to the offensive at Arras, in which 15th div was heavily engaged?

I cannot answer that. All the info I had before Dick left a reply was the info from the Commonwealth War Graves site and the date of his MID.
