Timbob1001 Posted 22 November , 2013 Share Posted 22 November , 2013 Would anyone have a copy of the above regimental history for a quick lookup? Am tryign to confirm the award of a MSM to a NCO - possibly 1914-20 or inter-war period? Thanks Tim
Steven Broomfield Posted 22 November , 2013 Share Posted 22 November , 2013 Go ahead - if it's not in the book, I have friends in the Gurkha Museum. What's your man's name?
Timbob1001 Posted 22 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 22 November , 2013 Thanks! Its a bit of an oddity: KGV Kaiser-iHind Indian MSM to 3345 Havr. Mohamad Ibrahim 1-6 GR. The oddity is that he must have been a Muslim.... perhaps more likely inter-war I think? Tim
Steven Broomfield Posted 23 November , 2013 Share Posted 23 November , 2013 Tim, I can see nothing in the history, so I'll ask in the museum. Is this something engraved on the medal, or is your information from elsewhere?
Timbob1001 Posted 23 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 23 November , 2013 Thanks for the look-up Steve. I have three medals - Indian MSM, IGS 08 and IGS 1936. All three named (with slight variation) to 3345 Hav. Mohmad Ibrahim 1-6 GR Mohd on other two. Thanks for your help Tim

Steven Broomfield Posted 3 December , 2013 Share Posted 3 December , 2013 Answer from the Curator: Havildar Mohammed Ibrahim was almost certainly a non-Gurkha regimental clerk. Apparently in the "early days" this role was taken by Indian, as opposed to Gurkha, ranks. As the 6th (and the 5th, incidentally) were quartered at Abbotabad (now in Pakistan) it was common for these men to be Muslim. Therefore it seems a pretty good bet that your chap was a Muslim Havildar clerk. I'm afraid that's all he can find, but hope it helps.
