Simon Furnell Posted 27 September , 2004 Share Posted 27 September , 2004 Evening all. I have been remembering, today,my Great-grandad,Private 17136,John Allum,3rd Royal Berks, attached Labour Corps, who was KIA and is buried at Templeux-le-Guerard. In the same cemetary,is buried Ian Fleming's father, and it is such a peacefull place, with views over a farm, and rolling fields. Not a lot different from the places he had known as a kid/teenager/father of one. Family rumour has it that he was almost stone deaf, and,at 36,should have been no where near the front anyway. Different breed,36 year olds,in those days. I know the name,Abercrombie, and seem to think that it is of Irish origin. However,i am not surprised to see it mentioned in a Scottish Regiment. Remembering them both, and the many hundreds more, who lost their lives on this day, during war. Simon.
