Pte Hilary Tolkien 16th Royal Warwicks

The famous author J R R Tolkien had a younger brother Hilary Tolkien. He enlisted into the 3rd Birmingham Battalion (16th Royal Warwicks) his number was 1020.

He was in the Bugles/Drums section so he was a stretcher bearer.

He was wounded in April, 1916.

The first training HQ for the 3rd Birmingham Battalion was Moseley School, B'ham.

I am trying to locate a photo of Hilary Tolkien either in uniform or civilian dress. I have several of the Drums and Bugles section but cannot pinpoint him.

PLEASE.. has anyone out there got a picture of him. I know his picture (in uniform)was in a book published about Tolkien a few years ago.

By the way this is for the present day Moseley School/College archives who I am giving copies of my research and photos of the 3rd B'ham's training period there.

Cheers folks

Terry

Hi Enoch

No, the one I saw, he was in his blue uniform standing on the steps of the main entrance to Moseley School, I think he was holding a bugle.

It was around ten years or so ago. I was flicking through a book at W H Smiths.

Cheers

Terry
