I have just come across some old postcards in a draw which belonged to a deceased relative. They show images of several regiments some identified some not.there is about twenty in, all plus a funny card by a famous war cartoonist about the war babies battalion.

the Regiments concerned are,

A company'10th battalion duke of wellingtons(group photo all in civies with white arm bands)

posted from frensham camp

the 4th west riding howitzer brigade(group photograph)

11th battalion yorks and lancs cooks ?

most of the cards have been taken by a photographer by the name of N Stephenson (Otley w york )

Some have correspondece on them but most have not.

can any body help with a bit of history i have done a bit of research and have got a few results but I need a bit of help

cheers allen

Hi Pals.

This looks like it could be the start of uncovering a wonderful treasure trove of info.

Just live down the dale, my wife is from Otley and is following this closely. Be warned :D

Regards and good luck.

Chris.

  • 4 weeks later...

many thanks simon for your help.

I have shown the photos to family and friends and it is amazing what response you get.One chap at work brought some birthday cards in to show me that his great uncle had recieved whilst in France, with the bullet hole going right though the middle of them.he had them in his top pocket, unfortunately he was killed, plus a mills grenade,do not know where he got that from, thankfully it was disarmed (ie no detenator)

I will post some of the photos on the forum it may be of intrest to other members

cheers allen
